How the Cybertruck inspires creators.

One of the very interesting things about the Cybertruck, and the general interest it sparked in the minds of many car designers, and even designers in general, is the impression it gives of being a kind of blank canvas. An opportunity to explore our wildest fantasies, to render what we never dared to imagine. As if because someone with a high visibility, Elon Musk, and a renowned brand, Tesla, had shown a path towards having the courage to materialize the most extreme possibilities, those that challenge the status quo to an extent that was formerly believed to be ridiculous. It has launched a dynamic, one that is followed by tremendous momentum.

The Instagram account @tesla.cybertruck posts several posts a day, all featuring Cybertrucks of all kinds, in all types of situations, on Mars, in futuristic cities, in movies... all rendered by artists, designers, toy producers... It hasn't even come to reality, and yet has already been featured in more cultural works than any other vehicle in history. It may sound like a bold claim, but any research points at thousands of works already made. No car in history can claim to have had such a following in such a short amount of time.

It is hard to determine whether Elon Musk and Tesla had this whole movement in mind while directing the design team: did they expect it's simplicity to spark such a vast following and interest? Elon Musk stated several times that he didn't expect people to understand it, and that Tesla might have to produce another more mainstream pickup to penetrate that market.

Of course, we could also consider it is a way for designers to get visibility, since anything Cybertruck is guaranteed to get at least some attention. Imagine this rocket truck being from a legacy brand, it would have probably been much less shared throughout the internet.

Welders create their own mockups, another trend that reflects the enthusiasm following the Cybertruck's unveil. All of it is obviously a consequence of the simplicity of its design: it is so simple to replicate, to copy, that every creator feels like it wouldn't be too much of an effort to create their own version.

It is also a way to be part of a movement. Creating one's own version of the Cybertruck means being trendy, and works of arts are always balancing between pure originality and following the trend: this truck has given an exceptionally appropriate base for a balanced creation.

In short, we can credit the Cybertruck's success to

- a momentum following its unveil, that resulted in a trend

- the simplicity of its design

- the way it revolutionizes car design
